What you should know before doing your first BMX tricks?

By Annie Peterson

After you have acquired a new BMX bike you need to try new BMX tricks. If you are new to the BMX scene, then you wish to start at the bottom and learn from someone with experience. Do not commence with the advanced level tricks. Now, let us take a step backwards and start at the start. If you are ready to do the real deal and not just play bmx games on the computer then after having read this article you'll know a lot more about BMX and what you want to start with this sport.

BMX is a bike sport, so the very first thing you want to do is get a bike that suits. Not all bikes are the same. They have different features like Rear Center, Top Tube, Street, Bottom Bracket for example. These are used for varied styles. So read reviews and talk to others in the BMX scene prior to purchasing your cycle.

After you have purchased the bike and before stepping on it, you need to purchase a safety helmet in particular made for BMX sport. Even the most highly advanced riders fall off their bikes and as a newbie you will fall many times each day for an extended period of time to come. So don't spare any money to buy the safety helmet, but buy the highest quality.

BMX and falling are 2 sides of the same coin. Your knees, hands and elbows are the 1st body parts which may kiss the ground and get scratches repeatedly. You would like to buy knee and elbow pads and appropriate gloves as well. Without these, be ready to get hurt a lot during your BMX career. Do get not only on the bike with tight fitting jeans, buy some wide and dishevelled pants and ideally wear some shorts.

Once you have done all of the above, you are ready to ride and learn all of the tricks you ever wanted. The nicest thing would be to join up to the local club and learn from others. Don't forget that you're going to learn by repetition. Keep riding and falling and at last you will learn how to do the amazing BMS tricks you've seen on YouTube.
