Well, Frank Sinatra may not have sung about this little island in the north eastern Caribbean, but he should have according to the reaction of the average cruise ship passenger who gets a short visit on their brief stopover on their Eastern Caribbean cruise.



Consistently high-ranked for overall visitor satisfaction, St Maarten - St Martin is fast becoming the St Tropez of the Caribbean with people flocking to it's shores every year to sample the great variety of beaches, restaurants, culture and awesome natural beauty.

Half French and half Dutch, St Maarten- St Martin is the smallest twin-nation island in the world and deserves special attention for it's cultural diversity as well as it's strategic importance as a hub to many other destinations in the region.

Many cruisers on board a ship touring the eastern Caribbean (usually Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Celebrity or Disney cruises), are so taken aback by everything this tiny 37 square mile island has to offer, that they go back for a weeks vacation, fall in love with St Maarten, then return annually.

Early breakfast on the ship

10 minute scenic stroll along the boardwalk into the town center Philipsburg

Choose a van-like taxi on the town center square

Take a tour round the island soaking up the history and inside tips from the taxi drivers

Rest at one of 37 beautiful beaches and sample anything from burgers to gourmet 5 star french cuisine (if you like good food, St Martin has the best!)

Maybe you snorkel, jet-ski or tan for a while before heading back to town to enjoy the shopping mecca of Philipsburg where you will find jewelry, electronics, perfumes and licqor at duty free, tax-free prices.

End the day with an waterside cocktail or beer at the port before boarding your cruise ship satiated, tanned and with a few shopping bags.

A day in St Maarten can be a real mini-vacation and whet your appetite for more. There is so much to do on this island that even residents have difficulty keeping up with everything after living there many years.
