In the United States, for those who like to fish, bass fishing is one of the most popular styles of fishing. Fishing for smallmouth and white bass or other types of bass makes for good sport, but the one most anglers prefer to try for is the largemouth bass. One of the first things you have to consider when fishing for bass is where they're located. Fishing can be a great pastime if you find the right spot to go to, however, the fish you catch may not be the ones you really want. People that fish largemouth bass are well aware that you will only find them in certain types of aquatic environments. If you find an area that has weed beds, underwater shelter such as a ledge, and baitfish in the water, you will more than likely find these fish. These fish also do not like direct bright sunlight and prefer water temperatures between 60°F and 75°F. And if you are looking for largemouth bass, try shallow waters that have lots of cattails and lily pads in the water. Large mouth bass to not like sunlight and therefore are easiest to find in the morning or evening.

The rod and reel of course are the most basic pieces of equipment you'll need for fishing. It's not advisable to buy the most expensive equipment available if you are just starting out with bass fishing. A 6 foot medium action rod is probably the best to use.

Graphite rods are both light and durable, so that's probably your best choice for material. An easy to manage reel is the open faced spinning real, so that would probably be your best choice. The reel you choose needs to be able to hold at least 150 feet of fishing line. Making sure you choose the right fishing line is also important, a good choice is monofilament line with low visibility.

Although frustrating at times, bass fishing is a very enjoyable pastime for many. Though unpredictable, you can be successful at bass fishing as long as you choose the right location to fish and the ideal time to go. Every time that you go bass fishing, you will get a little better, and soon you will be catching them all of the time.
