Reduce Your Cholesterol The Natural Way

By Nora M. Greenway

Many people do not realize that they can lower their cholesterol without taking medication. But you can! Simply by changing what you eat and how much you exercise. By making a few changes to your current habits and repeating them on a daily basis, you can improve your health and lower your number.

Exercise Will Lower Your Cholesterol

Whether you have high cholesterol or not, exercise is important. Exercise gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing. Your muscles will get stronger and you will look leaner and healthier.

Your exercise routine could include walking everyday for 30 minutes, attending aerobic classes, doing yoga, going skating, and so on. The point is to get yourself moving instead of sitting on the sofa and watching T.V., or playing on the computer. The more active you can become the sooner you will lower your cholesterol.

There are a few other ways you can reduce your cholesterol numbers. It is always a good idea to simply know where you are. For example, what are you doing now that could be worsening your overall heart health? If you eat a very bad diet with saturated fats and sugars, this is one of the likely reasons for your high numbers. By reversing those bad habits, you will see improvements.

Additional tips.

* Do you eat a lot of red meat that is high in saturated fats? Consider cutting back to only having 1 meal a week that includes red meat.

* Do eat foods rich in antioxidants. They work as the body's internal healers by removing the toxins and build up in your blood. Foods like blueberries, leafy greens and other brightly or deeply colored vegetables help.

* Begin taking a CoQ10 supplement. CoQ10 helps to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system and has worked well in helping people reduce their numbers.

* Stop drinking sodas that are full of sugar and cut back on eating sweets and other foods that are high in carbs, especially food from fast food restaurants. Many people do not realize that eating too much sugar does affect their cholesterol numbers.

* Eat at least 25 to 35 grams of fiber rich foods each day.

If you have been diagnosed with high cholesterol chances are good that your doctor suggested that you begin taking prescription medication to reduce your number. A great alternative to taking prescription medications is to make the changes we've just discussed. These changes will bring down your numbers and significantly improve your health as long as you commit to making these changes for the rest of your life.
