By Mitchell Sussman

On my last trip to Palm Springs I had a chance to take in the El Paseo shopping district, the Rodeo Drive of Palm Springs and the California desert communities.

Set against an awe inspiring mountain backdrop, this chic street also boasts close proximity to several world-class resorts, attractions renowned public golf courses, performing art venues including McCallum Theatre, and scenic drives on Highway 74 into Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

Featuring over 300 world-class shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, jewelers, restaurants and much, much, much more it is located in Palm Desert in the center to the Coachella Valley. The shops are lined along a beautifully manicured and maintained picture-postcard floral and statue-filled mile. For those that don't want to shop or leave the comfort of their air-conditioned vehicle, El Paseo is the place to take a drive down and enjoy the sights.

There are also regularly scheduled events such as the Thursday night Art Walks that brings and amazing buzz around the galleries and an early Saturday evening Wine & Music Series in the Gardens on El Paseo that bring an air of relaxation. In addition, El Paseo is site of the annual Golf Cart Parade as well as Fashion Week.

There are a number of apparel shops like Burberry, Coldwater Creek, Gucci, J. Crew, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Tommy Bahama's Emporium to name a few that provide the latest of fashion to the desert. Not only are there Art Galleries like Christopher Morgan Gallery and Stephen Knutson Gallery, but El Paseo also has beauty shops such as Artisan Salon & Spa, Palm Desert Nails, Raymond Salon, and Shear Hair Design.

There is also a wide variety to choose from in regards to dining. Daily Grill, Sullivan's Steakhouse, Native foods, and Pacifica Seafood are a few that provide everything from turf to surf and beyond as well as home furnishing shops such as Desert Home Collection, Pottery Barn, and Tuverson & Company.

The jewelry stores on the street include, Chelsea Taylor, Diamonds of Splendor, Gail Jewelers, and Leeds & Son. And of course El Paseo contains a number of Shoe Stores such as Cole Haan, J. Stephens Shoes, The Walking Company, and Stuart Weitzman.

All in all, El Paseo provides the best and most update of materials as well as the finest food to go along with spending a day at one of the most up - scale places to visit on you next trip to Palm Springs and the California resort cities.
