Gemstones Analysis And How To Go About Their Trade.

By Lois Gordon

Gemstones can be described as very precious rocks that are mined, cut and polished and later used to make rings, necklaces and other beauty supplements. They are termed precious because they are available in small amounts around the world and hence very costly. Rarity is the key and their demand is abnormal because when the price becomes cheap then the demand falls.

Though most are mined, there are some that exist naturally and do not have to be mined but are considered precious for their luster. In the present world diamonds, rubies, sapphire and emeralds are the most precious. There are very many people who seek to buy the precious stones but are not sure of how to go about it.

First someone needs to understand how the gemstones are valued and graded to finally come up with the price. One example is where gemologists use the color, cut, clarity and carats. The color and luster of the stone is first given priority followed by the cut that is size and shape.

Clarity may be important to colorless gems. Carats are used to classify the stones on the basis of the most dominant chemical formula. Every dealer in the business has useful information on the classification which they can share with you.

When buying them, you must avoid dealers who are involved in illegal trade. You should also avoid buying from traders that you suspect might be selling knock offs. Remember to always think twice when the deal that you are offered becomes too good to be true.

There are thieves who are specialized in stealing gemstones and later reselling them to make money. You should beware of such and most importantly wear precious stones in safe occasions and avoid areas with high crime levels. Ensure to buy only what you afford and not what your pocket cannot handle just because you want to be seen looking good.
