A Lot Better Than Expected - Wide Yoga Mat Critique

By Samuel Flores

It does not bunch up under you, and I have friends who have been using it for years now and swear by it! Yes, it does slip initially but a quick cleaning with mild soap and water took care of it before first using it. My mother is the hardest person to buy presents for. However, she started to take yoga classes last year and really likes it! My yogi toes works well but does not cover from side to side or top to bottom. Not a concern for me at all. This is such a solid piece of investment when it comes to practicing yoga at home. I can't even use my old flimsy yoga mats after being spoiled on this one.

I find my old mats to be a bit spongy and soft now. But, again, everyone has their own preferences.

Both are in exceptional condition and he has used them multiple times every day. Another student in class also has one and really loves his. Sturdy and substantial, it is well worth the price and the extra weight...it gives more stability and grip than a lesser mat. It is the best yoga mat.

I ended up first getting a mat from hugger mugger and it had no grip at all (so I returned it), then I ended up sucking it up and paying the high price for this one and I have no regrets except I just wish I had gotten it sooner. It isn't really that heavy which some of the other reviews said.

Well worth the price. I bought this mat about a year and a half ago and love it! The smell did not bother me; I clean it with a lavender scented nontoxic cleanser. I like that it is a bit longer, I almost wish I would have got the 81".

It is a huge investment, but well worth it if you enjoy Hot Yoga. The mat is heavier than other mats so it would be helpful to have a carrying case or strap, but once you experience the comfort, durability and support of this mat you will know where your dollars went and most assuredly you won't be disappointed. I compared my mat to my instructors mat and they are different - she has had her mat for many years, where mine is new, the manufacturing of the Manduka mat has changed, and the mat that I have is HORRIBLE! Manduka gave me a bag and a cloth that I can use on top of my mat because of the inconvenience, but when my cloth is dirty and I do not have it in class with me, I slip and slide all over this thing. If you are at all serious about yoga do make the investment and get this mat. It is heads above all of the other $12 and up mats out there.

Well worth the price when I compare it to my $40 mat which was falling apart within a year. This is an excellent mat for all purposes. So, I am putting my old cheaper Danskin mat over the Manduka mat to hold my poses. I have been told the Manduka mat will not be slippery when broken in so I will amend this review in time.
