Fantastic Budget Headphones - Custom Headphones Review

By Samuel Cox

Here's a quick review for you. The quality is absolutely great, and the range is incredible. We use Sennheiser products (mics) in our Rock Band and the performance is consistent and high-end quality. I would recommend this product to others.

You can listen to quieter things like dialogue without that annoying ever-present hissing though, thank goodness. I guess it all comes down to your source, but plugged into a good receiver they can work very well, especially if you turn them up a step. Remember this: escape is not a luxury; it is a necessity if you want to get an advanced degree in sound and mind travel. Now get out and buy these phones! Only the volume and balance controls took me a little while to get used to; sometimes I would accidentally turn off the phones rather than adjust the volume. Previous reviewers have remarked on the slight delay in sound transmission; I'll say it is about one-tenth to one-fifth of a second.

The headphones are comfortable though I would like a bit more padding spanning the entire headband. The buttons on the headphones that control power, volume and balance (handy if you have asymmetrical hearing deficits) are too small and flat.

I get perfect reception in 97 percent of my two story house and most of the back yard. They make house work a LOT less boring. But regular pop or rock tunes work just fine, same goes for video games and movies, and that's good enough for me. Straight forward setup, great sound! The full manual uses actual, honest-to-goodness words and pictures instead of those pictograms. Every aspect of build quality is excellent.

So I bought these because the RF headset that I normally use was starting to break down physically. I had used it for years with no real problem.

The RS 180 features ALC, which will boost mid-range in the interest of speech intelligibility. If you find it is too much, you can turn it off. Wow, I have been waiting literally years for a quality set of wireless headphones. I listened to many including the previous generation of Sennheiser's. Two of them were such a pain to use I threw them in the trash. The third one stopped working after about 6 months of use. I purchased these wireless headphones for quiet listening late at night so I would not disturb other people. I have used the wired Sennheiser HD 414 headphones for the last 20+ years and have had zero problems with them.
