Algarve is situated in the mild southern part of Portugal. This area has rich orchards and a legendary for its hospitality. This dramatic region offers the ideal climate for tourists as well as farming. The weather that you will find in the area is perfect for tanning and also for growing tasty fruit. The colorful history of this area, similar to the rest Europe, has left many monuments for tourists to visit. The pleasant and welcoming people of Algarve, together with the reasonably priced accommodation and food, makes it one of the most popular Mediterranean holiday destinations.

There are many day trips, activities and tourist attractions that can be enjoyed in Algarve. All of this you can choose according to the area that you are holidaying in. If you want to, you can spend all your time roaming through the countryside, breathing in the landscape and stopping over at some of those historical sites. Or you can just head down to the beach for some sunbathing. Golf enthusiasts will discover quite a few top quality golf courses in the area. Golf makes up a big part of the tourist industry in Algarve - especially during the winter months.

A holiday to Algarve has to consist of a trip to some of its breathtaking beaches. With its up to date facilities, Praia de Barril is the first choice for most of the tourists. Praia da Armona is probably the most romantic. If you love sun and surfing, regardless if you take part or just watch, Meia Praia is almost certainly the destination for you. Faro is a very old town and one of the most liked holiday spots in the region. You should make your way through the Arco da Villa Town Gate when you go there. If you travel somewhat further, you will arrive at Sao Bras de Alportel with its well-known town market enclosed by almond orchards. Everywhere in Algarve you will come across almond groves. While here, make sure you enjoy a tasty meal on Pousada's patio while taking in the unbelievable view. You will eventually get to a 15th Century church with the name of Igreja when you travel further south. It exhibits a dramatic facade and bell tower that symbolizes the classic local style. When here, you will also find a great collection of local art.

Almonds are an enormous part of the region's agriculture, and in particular in the southern region. There is a good reason that this area is known as the Garden of Portugal. During the blossom season in late January and early February, the almond trees add a lot to the charming views across the countryside. You will also see pomegranates, carobs, figs, oranges and lemons apart from the ever-present almonds.
