The Various Methods Of Water Extraction

By Wuozhon Lisxhian

Water extraction is of two kinds - cold and hot methods. These methods are used in separating substances from a mixture, cleaning carpets, rugs and taking out essential oils from plants. This is also a critical way in cleaning flood in the house, cleaning up molds and smoke damaged surfaces.

A cold liquid method involves drastic changes of temperatures in rapid succession. The mixture is first dissolved in cold liquid and then immediately cooled fast. The different compounds crystallize as per their own temperature, so it becomes easy to separate them.

Hot liquid method of extraction is combined with equal amount of pressurized liquid. Though this method is called steam cleaning, there is no steam used except from the evaporation of the heat. Carpets and rugs are cleaned in this way as it helps to agitate the dirt off the surface and loosen them. .

Essential oils need both hot and cold methods to be removed from plants and are an expensive process. The hot steam liquidates the oils from the plant and the hot steam and oil rise up. This is passed through a cold area where they again come back to liquid form. The oil naturally floats up and can be now taken off.

Plants also give out their essential oils in a cold process which is also a long procedure. The rinds of lemons, oranges and grapefruits are cut into small pieces and immersed in the cold liquid. Soon the oil comes out and starts to float on the surface ready to be removed. This extracted oil is worthy to be used for a very short period.

Water, pressure, high and low temperature are all ingredients for any removal of substance or particle or compound from its resting place. When heat is used in the removal method it is important to keep an eye on the degree. Higher than the required temperature can also destroy the main item and make the whole process useless.
