Starting a Business: Where to Advertise

By Charles Ma

Whether you are a SEO Singapore Consultant crossing over to a new field or a fresh graduate who is about to set up his first business, staring an exciting new business will be a challenge. And one of the largest calls you will need to think of is where you should publicize your business.

Adverts or selling is the force that each business wishes to get shoppers. If you do not publicize, only a handful of people will know about your products or services-and these people are most likely your chums! And if you want to get a respectable living from your business, you need to go out there and make friends. And this time, pals mean buyers.

Here's the good news: with the popularity of the internet and other technologies, you now have more methods to advertise- offline and online.

And the bad news is: with all of the millions of ways to advertise, it does get harder to get spotted.

Now, I believe that there is only one golden rule in advertisement: be where the consumers are.

When you need to publicize, you have to have a targeted audience. You shouldn't just do an advert campaign, spread it wherever and whenever and just hope it reaches someone's attention. You need to have a target.

So that is the very first thing about where you must publicize. You have to have a targeted or a subset of people who you want to attract.

Next, you want to think like your customers or to draw from your experience. For example, you're a SEO Singapore Consultant who is now planning to leave the IT world and start her very own career as marriage planner (rather big change, eh?), well, you need to use your knowledge in S.E.O to form a marriage planner web site.

You should ask yourself, if I'm a bride arranging a marriage (let's admit it, grooms don't plan weddings), where will I go? Bridal shops, wedding bazaars, churches. Where should you be? Online, bridal mags, bridal sites and the marriage section of papers.

Another idea to find consumers is to go to the offline ways of announcement. Design and print out fliers. Give them out or post them in cafeterias, malls, for example. Print out your business card, give it to new friends. If you have the budget, publicize on mags and newspapers.

Your customers are the most urgent ingredient you need in your business. If you'd like a profitable company, you want shoppers. And you owe it to oneself, your staff (if any) and your clients to find and think of paths to reach a larger audience.
