Does Your Garage Need A Make-Over?

By Mia Clarkson

Does your garage appear to be shrinking? Are you tired of looking at and enduring piles and mountains of uncontrolled clutter? Are you thinking you actually need to have some garage storage cabinets in which to store and organise your cleaning materials, tools, pet supplies, etc. ? Was your garage tiny even before it started shrinking? It may be time for a garage make-over!

The good news is you don't need to spend a massive amount to refresh your disorganized and messy garage. While costs will vary in accordance with the size of the area, how you need to organise it and the different items you choose to buy so as to attain this, there are low and even no-cost alternatives to help you tame and control your garage chaos. If money is tight, bear in mind that functionality is far and away more important than aesthetics.

There's a variety of storage drawers and garage shelving ideas -- all with varying price tags, naturally -- that can add functionality to any garage, small or large. If your budget is generous, you may also add some style and class to this frequently neglected and typically boring space.

The first thing you'll need to do, though, is to sort through all of the items you have accumulated. Only after you have determined what items are still valuable and/or useful are you able to decide what garage storage and organization items you may need and desire to buy.

This primary step may appear dismaying, especially if it's been a few years since you've sorted thru the things stored in your garage, but the ultimate result will be worth the effort. Having a plan about how you will go at it is intensely useful and you may also want to persuade other family members to help with the project.

As you consider the items and decide what you must keep, the remainder can be sorted and categorized as items to dump, items to give away or items to sell. This is simply accomplished by labeling boxes or baskets to correspond and then just begin sorting. If you are dealing with a massive volume of items or extremely clumsy items, you might want to designate areas on your drive and/or yard for these categories instead.

If you're like the general public, you will be definitely amazed at the amount of accumulated stuff you simply no longer need! Now, aren't you pleased that you did not buy those storage and organization items first? Your "to buy" list -- and its final effect on your pocketbook -- will surely be minimised.
