Can Green Living Actually Be Simple?

By Dayle Bennett

Some people fear that it will take unreasonable effort to make their lifestyle environmentally friendly. However, it is actually not that hard and just making small changes can help the environment by decreasing your carbon footprint.

Unhooking electrical gadgets when they're not in use is one way you can begin to live a green lifestyle. Regardless of what you have been told, even if something is turned off, it still consumes a small amount of electrical energy which can all contribute to a higher energy usage. Although this can be tough initially, once you are in a routine it will become simpler and will also save you money in the long run.

Each time you go shopping and carry your food items home in bags, don't discard those bags once you've put away the grocery. When you visit the store for more shopping, take those bags with you. This will help to reduce the number of bags you use every month, which will save you money on bag purchases and add to less rubbish which can cause pollution. Furthermore, these bags can be employed for other functions too.

Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to drive less daily. Walk or carpool whenever it is doable unless it's imperative that you drive to a specific location. When you drive only when you absolutely have to, you produce less pollution and can also save a good amount of money. This is one area where you can definitely save a a considerable amount of the money you spend on rising gas prices.

While you can decrease pollution with the use of many methods, one area you should think about is the usage of plastic water bottles. The water in these bottles may be safer than tap water but they cause a great amount of pollution as they are usually disposed of after just being used once. There's nothing inappropriate with getting bottled water if that's what you prefer to do. However, try using the bottles again whenever you can. You nay be asking yourself how. Well, with a small investment, you can obtain a reasonably good water filter which you can use to fill them and then you can put them in the fridge. Again, like the other examples previously, this will cut down your impact on the environment due to less potential pollution and will also save you money.

By combining your efforts in making a few of these little changes, you can make a great difference in the effect on our environment and your pocket. So definitely, green living is relatively easy if you are determined to take the first step.
