Drawing Lessons At Your Local College Or University

By Joe Davies

If you think you are a budding artist and want to enhance your skills as an artist, you can try applying for some drawing lessons. These take place at local colleges or universities, and will be on nights or weekends, and will not interfere with your work. They're ideal if you'd like to learn how to draw step by step rather than at your own pace. You can find the course dates in local papers, or try ringing up your local college and asking when or if they have any drawing courses available in the future.

You may want to go more of an abstract 'Picasso' route or a cartoonist. How great would it be to be able to draw cartoon sketches like your favourite cartoon characters like Bart Simpson, or Peter Griffin from Family Guy? Maybe you would prefer to draw buildings, bridges or other landscapes.

If you want to be a drawing professional you are definitely heading in the right direction if you want to take some lessons. You may well just want to carry on doing drawing as a hobby, but like many people you may find that you have a great passion for it and want to become an artist or illustrator. These skills will be enhanced in your lessons and you will find them really useful no doubt.

Drawing does take a certain amount of dedication. Just like writers have a 'writers block', artists have the same with painting. Inspiration has to come and sometimes when it doesn't it can be very frustrating for the artist, especially in the learning stages. There is no harm in giving drawing a go though, either way, I think you'll find it interesting and it will test your character. You may surprise yourself!

Sketching or painting will give you a 'can do' personality. Once you've tackled a few of the challenges set by your drawing teacher you will begin to feel confident about trying new things and taking your skills to new levels by taking on new challenges. Drawing can only be taught so much before the artist has to take the lead and find the inspiration himself.

There are many ways to learn drawing, but the most common way is to learn in the classroom hands on. You will have the benefit of a teacher there that can tell how to properly use the utensils for painting, drawing or sketching. There will be a local art class near you, simply search the net or call your local college to find when and where they are taking place.
