The Thailand Full Moon Party At Koh Phangan Is One Awesome Experience

By Jordan Ebor

Koh Phangan in Thailand is one of the islands that many people love to visit. It is known mostly for its Full Moon Party, which takes place every month. I have been to this awesome event a couple of times. Although it is on every month, most people visit this place in large numbers between December and March. The majority of people come to Koh Phangan to relax at the great beaches, as well as for the the Full Moon Party.

My first time to visit Koh Phangan was in December 2008. This was around Christmas and it was a full moon. I saw crazy scenes that made me love the place. My friend Chrissie and I whilst we were there went to Haad Rin Beach for the Full Moon Party, We actually danced from sunset until dawn on the beach. Whilst at Haad Rin Beach for the Full Moon Party I enjoyed a variety of food and drinks. I had a chance to taste the Thai meals for the first time. They were indeed mouth-watering! I enjoyed beer while my friend Chrissie drank cocktails.

There is plenty to see and do at the Full Moon Party and there are a number of street performers or buskers to keep you entertained. The music always pumping around the beach and thousands of people dance the night away. The most popular drink at the Full Moon Party is called a "bucket". I have got no idea what is in these buckets, but Chrissie and I shared one. If you're game, check out the fire rope jumping. I could explain it, but you're better off just checking it out for yourself!

Chrissie had told me about this hotel she liked called the Seaview Sunrise Resort, which is right on Haad Rin Beach. We stayed there the first Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan and I loved the location and the accommodation so I have just booked the same place every time! Koh Phangan has several hotels, hostels and resorts though that are within close proximity of Haad Rin Beach. I have never really found it an issue getting accommodation in Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party, but you might consider getting your accommodation sorted in advance as the island will be packed when the Full Moon Party is on.

For those who wish to get to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party it is easy enough to reach. You cannot fly to Koh Phangan though as there is no airport on the island. Everybody arrives by ferry either from Surat Thani on the mainland or from the neighbouring island, Koh Samui. If you fly, you have to go to Koh Samui first then connect to Koh Phangan by ferry. You can also catch a train or bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then connect to Koh Phangan by ferry. There are also tour groups available that have tours to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party.

As I explained earlier, the Thailand Full Moon Party is hard to explain to someone who hasn't been before. You really have to go and do it for yourself to get a feeling for what it is like. I believe that the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party is well worth the trip though if you're ever in Thailand. Actually do you recall the Leonardo De Caprio movie, The Beach? The Full Moon Party was portrayed in that movie.
