Essential Details Concerning Hair Turbans

By Freda Watts

Different religions, communities and nations have variations in their beliefs as far as clothing is concerned. A good example is the use of hair turbans in some of these. These are cloth wraps made of plain cotton and other mixtures of silk and polyester, and wool. They are used to cover heads of people. This usage is for all and there are no constraints in terms of sex and age.

Turbans come in different colors as per the tastes and preferences of the individual or the religion although preference is highly taken in for black, white or blue. It is good to note that their use varies from one religion or community to another depending on their beliefs. The way they are tied, depicts a certain phenomenon in that culture.

This represents certain ways in which they are tied around the head. A given formula for doing this has to be in use. At first, one has to hold the cloth in front at both ends using the two hands. With well positioning in the middle, these ends are brought past the temples up to the back of the head. At this point, one is to continue wrapping past the temples. This is for the first piece held in one hand.

When done, it is pulled over the head slightly and the same process repeated for the other piece in the other hand. This is done alternatively up to the point where just a single foot at both ends remain in each arms. These ones are brought to the back of the head and tied into a plain loop.

Some of the excess materials remaining are then used to cover any opening which is visible. This is how it is done. At first it may be difficult but once the person follows these instructions and gets used to it, it becomes easier with time. This general way of wrapping is both for males and females, young and the old.

Islams who are deeply religious perceive it as a part of their Islamic life which their founder, Prophet Muhammad led while still on this planet. They believe he used to put it on with other white and black robes. This is their main reason but, some variations in other nations where Islam is not that popular follow their own beliefs.

The political class of Afghanistan and Columbia has a slightly different view on this. They believe it portrays one as a leader and their unique character and position in society. Other people perceived to have a little different idea are the Indian women. These ones see turbans as show of the persona in them. With all these it is very clear of the slight variations and deviation from the main component.

Apart from Muslims, the Sikhs are also known to wear hair turbans. They believe this attire distinguishes them as warriors in the society and also helps to keep their hair long. This is because; most of them do not cut it due to the taboo perception.
