Coming Up With Vintage Advertising Signs

By Maryanne Goff

Vintage advertising signs are stand alone decorations for use both within homes and business enterprises. They are more eyes catching and their make is very exceptional. This makes them to bring out the aspect of those times just as the name suggests. With reference to the old times, those of today can be made in such a way that they inhibit the traditional aspect.

The designing process is quite a tough one. The size has to be exact. Usually a length of between eighteen and thirty six inches and a width of twelve to twenty four inches are used. The preferred size and shape depends fully on the needs and desires of the user.

From size, the use of American steel is emphasized. This metal is worked upon and passed through a process called sublimation. Here, writings are placed on it with the use of hand and the required images backed upon using a powder. The need for this is to bring out the shinny aspect of the signage which is long lasting and eye catchy.

Later on, sanding using a sand paper or actual sand grains is done. This process involves scrubbing the sand particles onto the item, which is the image and writings. It is done slightly and very carefully. The notion behind this is to give it an old look and appearance. On completion, the item will be ready to be hung on the wall once the hanging nails have been attached.

When it comes to decoration within houses, these signage have become so common. It is because, they come in numerous shapes and sizes which are very appealing to the eyes and colorful. With many being worthy in terms of prices, most people who purchase these items prefer keeping them in the house as treasured items. They hang them at strategic places for memory lane reminder of the good old times.

Dirt and soot are the spoilers and destroyers of these items. When covered in these, it becomes cumbersome to clean and preserve the glossy appearance. They become worn out quite easily in the process. For this reason, emphasis of keeping them in a glass covering has been proposed and it is on the use as of today. This is better than leaving them in the open.

Original signage are very scarce to get but easy to distinguish from the others. The genuine aspect can easily be established by careful looking at them as far as the wording is concerned. The letters of original items should not be perfect and well placed. In case one has this perfection then, it is not genuine since that wording could have been using a computer program or application.

The final basis of originality of vintage advertising signs is that of visible brush strokes. These ones are a must and come with uneven feel as a result of raw paint. Where this aspect is missing, the buyer needs to know that the item is illegitimate.
