Chef's Apparel: The Vitals

Not only do fashion designers have to create a fashionable outfit for chefs but they still have to serve their original purpose. Every part on the outfit of the chef serves a purpose. Chef's do not wear those double breasted jackets just to look appealing. The kitchen is full of ovens and the such that create searing heat and this jacket shields the chef from that. Even the buttons have a purpose, they a designed not to burn when they are heated up.

Most chefs would agree that their favorite part on the uniform would be the coat. It serves to make the chef look like a chef while still being a comfortable item to wear. It can come with 10 to 12 buttons and often called an executive coat. The coat also houses a very important tool, a thermometer pocket.

The pants is also an important part to the uniform. The checkering on the pants is actually to hide all the stains that a chef will get. Modern chefs would rather wear baggy pants though. This allows the chef to easily navigate a usually crowded kitchen. A classic look the checkered pants is still appealing.

All the remains to the chef's apparel is the puffy hat. The hat back then was a symbol of status for chefs. Although, the hat is more than a mere status symbol, it has a very important part to play. The hat actually serves to keep the chef comfortable, especially within the scorching heat, it does this through a mesh top that allows the air to flow in and out. It also prevents hair from dropping into the food.
