Deck Awnings Look Great When Done Right

By Liliana Mills

There are some great summer locations within the United States and if you have the appropriate setup in your home or back yard you can enjoy the weather all year round. Deck awnings give you that opportunity and you can expand them to include screening too. If you need or want a way to enjoy the great outdoors without all of the hassles then this is the way to do just that.

When trying to decide which to go with you always have to consider the home it will be installed to. These can help to increase your value for a couple reasons. For one they make the back deck a more attractive area to sit and do anything. You can sit out and read, barbecue, or host some guests. The awning makes this more possible because of the protection it offers.

That is really what people want with these. There are no limits to the available options either. If you want a retractable metal style, that is readily available as well. Or maybe you want a stationary one with a retractable screen attached, that is most certainly doable and you can even take that one step further too.

The retractable versions are also much easier to use and maintain. If you go with the retractable over the stationary they will last longer, look better, and increase the value of your home. Another reason they will help you home value out is because they do the same for your cooling bill in the summer months.

If cared for they will last a good long time. You will have choices in the styles that you can have installed just like anything else. Today the retractable ones are the most popular and they can last a while longer than the alternatives. You can get automatic or manual retractable styles and no matter which you choose, they do cost a bit more.

If the lifespan of your installation is your main worry, then the retractable ones are your best bet. Either the automatic ones or the manual. Both of these tend to live longer than other versions because they are not forced to stand up to the weather as much. They can be pulled in and covered when bad weather approaches and they will be safe.

Not even the sun will beat down on the deck awnings when they are pulled back in to the home. One thing that must not go unattended is the maintenance and cleaning of these additions. Just like anything else that is in your home or outside of it, these must be cleaned on a regular basis. This is especially true of the permanent ones.

Maintenance is also an issue with deck awnings. The retractable ones will last much longer but only if you do the required cleaning and maintenance. Moving parts need to be oiled and cared for and the top of the awning must be cleaned and cleared of debris. Neglecting the awning will only cost you money later as well and not a small amount either.
