An Introduction To Women Clergy Robes

By Kathy Kaufman

There are many different kinds of religions out there. All of these have their own practices to ensure that the followers get the support they need. Services are performed so that everyone remains strong in their faith. These are usually facilitated by the priest or the pastor. In many denominations, these pastors wear women clergy robes.

You will notice these articles whether they are at the pulpit or performing a sacrament. The different denominations all have their own set of garments that are to be worn by their pastor or leader. Church goers probably have wondered at one time or another why these kind of clothes are worn. There are a number of reasons for doing so.

One reason is that this is a tradition that has been carried over from a long time ago. Early churches started this practice and it has never completely disappeared. Religious texts have many references to wearing these garments. This is probably the reason why people started to associate these garments with the religious leaders.

The garments are also worn to separate the person from his religious duties. Most of the time, when you know someone, you start feeling too comfortable and are not able to take them seriously. When the priest wears these garments, it reminds everyone that he is now leading the congregation to worship. He stops becoming your friend or your neighbor and becomes the priest.

The garments are a representation of his office. There are other formal clothes that can be worn. A suit and tea for example is equally formal but then these are also worn by the rest of the population. These unique garments marks him as a person of faith since these are worn nowhere else and by no one else.

As you will observe, this gowns convey a formal vibe. They are not meant to be worn casually, given the style of dress and the details that have been incorporated on it. Parts of these garments are meant to be symbols of certain concepts. Its design, the details incorporated into it, and its colors all contribute to the solemnity of the occasion.

When garments are designated for the leaders then they appear uniform. Certain articles are only worn for a certain service so that every leader will be wearing the same thing. This is one way of taking the focus away from physical appearance. The audience does not focus on how the priest appear and the priest in turn can avoid being vain.

Though there are religions that fully support the wearing of these articles, there are also those who have stopped doing so. This could be because they want to indicate that they have a different faith. Others also do not support this because they think that it is an indication of the gap between men of religion and the congregation.

Women clergy robes are worn because it has been the tradition of religious leaders to wear such garments. It serves to symbolize their office so that people recognize them. The garments also contribute to the formal atmosphere, as is appropriate and eliminates the need to be in fashion. Some leaders though have chosen not to wear these items according to their beliefs.
