What To Know About West Virginia Fall Festivals

West Virginia is known for many things like coal mining and Harper's Ferry. You may not know that West Virginia Fall festivals are a great deal of fun and a part of the state's culture. Visiting the events is a great opportunity for viewing live music, learning about the state history, and a lot more. There are many festivals in autumn, a very pretty time of year, and some of the celebrations have been around for a great number years.

One of the oldest festivals is the Preston County Buckwheat Festival. Started 72 years ago, the annual celebration features carnival rides, three parades, livestock shows and more. The Preston County Buckwheat Festival will be held September 26, 2013 through September 29, 2013 in Kingwood, WV, with musical performances by Taylor Made and American Idol's Casey James. This is a must see event for the whole family.

For 37 years West Virginians have celebrated the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival. Over a couple of hundred artists and crafters set up their tents and feature their work. The artists and crafters have actually been prejudged and specifically selected for this event so you can be sure they are good. There will also be live bluegrass music, wine and food. Check it out on September 27 through 29 for boatloads of fun.

The West Virginia Pumpkin Festival was started in 1985 as a way to assist farmers in raising and selling their pumpkins. The commemoration features many family friendly activities, including a bake off, parade, beauty pageant and much more. You can check out this celebration October 3rd through 6th, 2013.

If you want to see a tractor pull, an antique bottle show and a gas and steam engine show, then The Country Fall Festival is for you. Held at the WV State Farm Museum, you can tour the thirty plus buildings and even see how apple butter is made. The festival is taking place October 5 and 6, 2013.

Free street festivals are always fun. The Historic Middleway Day festival will feature pony rides, a petting zoo, live music and more. Really, there is something for every family member at the event. Take a wagon ride, with a guide, thorough the Historic Middleway District and learn about the history there.

The Fall Festival and Antique Fair, held at Prickett's Fort State Park, is a celebration focusing on foods from the 1700s. You can learn about harvesting, preservation, manners, customs and much more. Enjoy this event all weekend, October 12th and 13th, 2013.

Autumn is a beautiful time to visit West Virginia. There are so many West Virginia Fall festivals to choose from. Some of the celebrations feature more kid friendly activities than others. Some celebrations last three days, some just one day. What all the festivals have in common is that they are artistic, tons of fun and many are educational.
