A visa is used in accordance with a passport allowing a person to stay, enter or leave a country for a specified period of time. There are several different types of passes that are used for this purpose. B visas are used in America by foreigners who want to enter the country on a temporary basis. B1 and B2 Visa are the two main kinds.

B1 is used by the individuals who seek to enter the country for business reasons. However, B2 visas are specifically for people who are coming into the US for tourism or other non-business reasons. The two categories may be couple together and called a B1-B2 visa, which is given to those in the US for business, pleasure or both.

There is a cost for these passes. Typically there is an application fee that is applied. An issuance fee may also be charged, but this will vary by nation depending on the fee reciprocity. As with most other visas issued by the American government, there is a period of validity. Usually this is between 1-10 years. The pass may allow for multiple or one entry into the country and elicits a period of stay that is recorded by Customs and Border Protection officers at the point of entry. Validity periods are dependent on the country, ranging from three months up to 10 years.

B2 types are usually permitted for up to six months. B1 passes usually lasts long enough for individuals to conduct their business, six months, and may grant individuals extension for an additional six months. Extensions are usually available to those who have not violated condition of admission.

Pleasure and business are broad and used to classify an assortment of reasons for temporarily living in America. People may be given business entrance so that they can negotiate or sign off on contracts, purchase necessary supplies or materials, handle tests and exams, perform professional work, settle their estates and hold conventions or meetings.

People that are looking to come for pleasure have to have a B2 pass. These are often given to those who are looking to travel through America, visit loved ones, be involved in social, service or fraternal activities or receive necessary medical services. The pass can be used by people certain couples who are cohabitating.

In order to get this pass, individuals must have a valid passport. Furthermore, the individual must prove to the consular officer that he or she will return abroad when the temporary period is complete and will not participate in unauthorized employment while in America. This pass is only given to applicants who demonstrate that their financial resources would be enough to support the round trip travel and living expenses for their temporary visit.

The B2 visa is issued by the American government to individuals who have passports. This special pass allows individuals to temporarily live in the United States of America for tourism or other non-business purposes. These are typically granted for a six month time. Sometimes, a person might receive extension.
