What The Airport Lost And Found Does

By Christi Larsen

Flying is a common today as driving a car, and when people travel they carry a lot with them. Leaving items behind can be a nightmare. A plane arrives only to find the luggage has been left behind. It ends up in the airport lost and found.

The flight is on the way to Texas, but a piece luggage is still at the airport. Somehow it was not checked. Now, the scramble is to find it and get it back. It is not as bad as it sounds. The rate of retrieved items is very high.

The most important factor in a situation like this is to report the loss immediately. Delay in do this will only make the situation almost impossible to correct. The first place to check is with the lost and found section of the airport.

The reasoning is that if it is left in the terminal it may still be there in the same spot it was left. Trying to locate it at the TSA may not be a good idea and it may only waste time.

Different terminals do not use the same procedures to return missing items. What works at one location may not work at another. Some airports have a time limit on how long they will keep lost items.

If the item was left on the air plane that is where to look first. Check with that airline. Be sure to have the correct flight information in case it is needed.

Airports can only deal with the things left at that location. They may be able to alert the airline of the situation, but at that point it is out of their hands.

It is not that the terminal does not care about the travellers. They have to handle countless numbers of missing items each day, and their holding facilities are overcrowded.

Airport personnel are very concerned about the belongings people leave behind. They understand that what may not be important to one person is extremely important to another person. They also realize how important laptops or cell phones are to business travellers.

They are just as happy to see a person reunited with something that was missing as the person. There is some good news. In many instances, what a person lost can be found. It is not common practice for someone to take something that belongs to someone else.

When many people find something that someone else has left behind, they look for someone to tell. The only thing is there are so many different establishments in an airport that they may end up giving it to someone the car rental, or the information booth. No one really want to take something that does not belong to them. They simply are in a hurry to get where they are going.

If something is missing, keep a calm attitude, and backtrack over the area where it was last seen. It can be found. Try the airport lost and found first. Then, check every establishment in the terminal to see if it was brought to them. Be patient and the thing that was missing will be found.
