A career is a crucial part of life, but it shouldn't consume all of your time. You need to maintain balance between work and home if you want to accelerate your career. Working too many hours is just as unproductive as working few hours. In fact, in working less, you may be even more efficient. You may think the co-worker who works 70 hours a week is dedicated. He may be committed to working, however maintaining that constant work schedule may be doing harm to his/her family relationships or health. It could also be damaging to his work productivity.

If you want to achieve maximum career success, it is essential to live a balanced life. While it is necessary to work hard at times, I would rather you work right. Instead of doing things in such way that is taxing on you, look for ways to systematize your work load to make it more efficient. I personally say if I can hire someone between 20-100 dollars to do something for me, it is money well invested. Maybe it would be best to hire someone else to do the job for you or at least part of the job where someone might be faster or more knowledgeable.

Make sure to plan vacation time off from work, where you leave the business world behind for a brief period. Plutarch said, "Rest is the sauce of labor!" Learn to enjoy yourself. Examples of things to do to wind down are visit family, take in the sights of your hometown, travel to a new city, visit an amusement park, sit on the beach, ski in the mountains, barbecue at the lake or do whatever else that will relax you. it is called a vacation, so make sure not to have any contact with work related items while you are on vacation.

If you cannot escape for an entire vacation, do something that isn't work related for at least a day or two. This variation is necessary for you to refuel, recharge and reenergize yourself. By taking a break, you will be amazed at how your work performance improves upon returning to the office.

Making certain you get sufficient exercise, sleep, and nutrients that gives you a mental and physical dominance over those who don't take care of these areas. Your thoughts and reactions are sharper. Maintaining physical and mental fitness is another way of demonstrating that your career is an vital component of your life. When you are physically and mentally in shape, you are more unlikely to miss work due to an illness. Most importantly, you owe it to your family and yourself to be as healthy as you can be so you can have a long, enjoyable life with those you love.

"I never realized how much I enjoyed my work until I got away from it for a while!"
