If you are suffering financially due to the bad economy, you might be tempted to nix your travel plans this year. Some of the ideas you are about to pick up may guide you to a more enjoyable, less expensive travel experience.

If you travel to a foreign country, it can be a good idea to bring your own bottled water. You can contract a variety of illnesses by drinking the unpurified water of other countries. Always use bottled water when brushing your teeth. It is possible to get sick from using the water when brushing your teeth.

If you have any food allergies, you will want to be particularly careful when traveling abroad. If you experience severe reactions to certain foods, you must become fluent in the words the natives use when it comes to their food. This will give you the ability to alert your waiter or waitress of the foods that you have an allergy to so that they can be kept out of your meals.

Don't rely on the airline you're flying with to cater to your every need, even if you're going on a long distance flight. Pack your headphones, a blanket and even a pillow if you feel like you will use them. You should also bring enough snacks to get you to your destination and not have to rely on airport food.

You should put an alternate pair of glasses in your luggage when you travel. Having a back-up pair is handy if your regular pair breaks. You may want to keep them on your person, or you can pack them into a suitcase if you prefer.

You can save money by waiting until you reach your final destination to change currencies. If you know there won't be a place to easily exchange currency once you land in your destination country, exchange a limited amount before you leave and then look for a better exchange rate once you arrive in-country.

Get yourself a National Parks Pass if you think you will be visiting often. They only cost $50 and remain good for use that year at any national park.

Do not fall into any traps in emails that concern travel. It is important to only open emails from travel companies with whom you know you have been asked to be added to their mailing list.

Traveling is a great way to educate your family. Even developing countries can be perfectly safe if you plan carefully for safety, and it's an awesome learning experience for your children. It also gives you a chance to build a better understanding of, and compassion for, cultures other than your own.

Take the time to make a packing list. Put together a list of things you must take with you. You can start doing this a couple of months out, but should be finished about a week before your trip. This will enable you to pack only the things that you really need and it can also ensure that you will not leave anything behind.

When traveling, make sure all your contact information, including your name, address and phone number are visible in your luggage. This is helpful if the tags on your luggage gets detached. This way, when your luggage is found, it can be returned to you. The more times you see your luggage, the more chances you have in preventing losing your belongings.
