See The Famous Chichen Itza Ruins

The outstanding archaeological sites of Mayan civilization include Chichen Itza. It is also considered as the most essential site for their cultures apart from this. At the Mouth of the well of Itza, which is the meaning of Chichen Itza, the well refers to the sacred cenote which they make offerings to the God of rain such as jade, gold, silver, pottery, weapons and human sacrifices.

In order to have a bountiful year and for the rain of course since it seldom rain in their place, these ceremonial sacrifices and precious jewels are being offered to the God of Rain known to be Chaac. One victim will be lifted back and revived by incense whenever he is pleased, but if he is not, a noble will suffer a year of unfortunate events.

Whenever Mayan Ruins is mentioned, people would always think of the pyramid in Chichen Itza. It consists of majestic pre-Columbian complex which includes El Castillo or the Temple of Kukulcan, which made them known worldwide and made a name to the New Seven Wonders of the World. There are also ancient ball courts and many other beautiful structures found in the place that you can check out.

El Castillo or the temple of Kukulcan was built in honor of the Kukulcan a serpent deity and it was constructed with the elements of styles of the Toltec and Mayan. Built between 1000 and 1200 AD, around 98 feet tall, it has 365 steps and each stair represents a day in the calendar year. One of the amazing designs is that there is a shadow of a serpent appears going down on the side of the steps when the sunlight hits it during spring and fall equinox. It was intentionally design by the Mayans to honor Kukulcan. This made people curios about it and it drives tourists to visit the place.

Aside from El Castillo, there are other sites that you can visit. From here, you could check the sacred cenote. The ancient ball court which is the largest in the Mesoamerican era is also a must see. It is where they play their games. You can find a temple at both ends of it.

You should not miss Chichen Itza travel whenever you visit Maya country. You can also enjoy and as well as see their wildlife and the different beautiful types of birds.
