Advantages And Disadvantages Of Aluminum Plate Usage

By Leslie Mitchell

An aluminum plate is a thin flat sheet of aluminum whose thickness is usually uniform. The plates have adequate strength which can allow them withstand heavy weights. Its ability to bear the weights without flexing makes it suitable for producing very excellent, strong products. Such products include but are not limited to ships, automobiles, and military vehicle armor.

Its sheets are always very durable. The attribute makes it suitable to produce storage tanks. As such, it can produce excellent space craft fuel tank. It is also not weakened or its strength compromised in any way by low temperatures. It can, therefore, be used successfully in storing cryogenic applications.

There are many other areas of use of this plate. Involved here are heavy machinery, synthesis of packaging materials, frames and bracing sides. The health sector has also reaped a lot of benefits from these plates. Tables used in hospitals, beds, X-ray machines all have element of its usage. Equipment used for the preparation of print outs, and related products are also made by use of this important pieces. Other slides, gauges and arms are also part of the applications.

The plate has several benefits that it comes with. First and foremost, its products remain stable under almost any condition or dimension. The piece of aluminum-made product is also free of stress. It can as well be welded. Besides, it's possible to have the plate customized to the user's requirements.

Unlike other plates such as nylon, wood, steel among others, it is much heavier and not likely to crack, bend or break. The others may be less expensive but more susceptible to breakage. For this reason, it remains the most ideal for the formation of storage tanks. It also has the attributes of immunity against corrosion.

The attribute of non corrosiveness is not true with many other metal sheets which are prone to rusting. Compared to steel which is brittle at low temperatures, aluminum remains stable. Issues of forming cracks due to brittle is, therefore, not encountered. No wonder it remains the best for the production of tanks which are at no given time required to break or crack. Its also non magnetic. This is a great merit to the ship's compass; it is particularly significant in war ship making them resistant to magnetic mines.

There are also certain disadvantages associated with these pieces. One outstanding demerit is that it is very expensive. For some, the price is just dehumanizing when compared to related products. In contrast with steel, aluminum posses very low melting points. It should also be noted that, however, as strong as it may be, it collapses in cases where there is a fire outbreak. The sheet's application in ship building is also adversely affected by the difficulty of welding it. The welding can be conducted only in a gas shield.

It is sufficient to conclude that aluminum plate can make great products. But care must be taken to insulate it from steel. Its price also needs to be brought down to counter the dominance of steel.
