When traveling abroad, keep your medications in their original bottles. Carry copies of prescriptions as well for verification. Ask your doctor for notes pertaining to any narcotics your medicines may have to show your particular need for them. It is also wise to carry a list of generic names for your medications in case the standard is not available at your destination.

If you are traveling by flight with your animal, and you had to check your pet in to cargo, stand at the gate window and look for your animal being boarded. Be the last to board the plane, and once all of the passengers have boarded, request the gate attendant to radio the baggage area to make sure your pet was loaded.

If you're planning an expensive vacation or trip, you might want to consider purchasing travel insurance. If an emergency comes up or you or your travel companion fall ill, you don't want to be stuck, begging the airline or cruise company to refund your money. If you have good travel insurance, you don't have to worry about spending your hard-earned vacation money, laying around at home with the flu.

When traveling internationally, an internet phone service on your laptop or smartphone. International calls using a cellular network can cost in excess of $3 a minute. Internet calls can only be placed from places where you have Wi-Fi access, but they will cost you only a couple of pennies a minute.

Take your time comparing prices for your flights. Many websites allow you to find information from different airlines and ranks your results in function of prices. Check out websites such as Kayak.com, Orbitz.com or Expedia.com for the most extensive results. Do not use one website only, as results can vary.

Lost luggage is common when traveling, so prepare beforehand by packing some essentials in your carry-on luggage. A change of underclothes, one outfit and a bathing suit enable you to carry on with most of your plans while you wait for your luggage to be located. To cover all bases, buy travel insurance that covers your luggage whether it is lost, stolen or damaged.

Look for coupons online for things you may want to do during your trip. You can get restaurant coupons for free meals when you purchase one meal or discounts on attractions, etc. This proves very helpful when traveling with your whole family and vacations can be very expensive to plan.

The travel industry has grown to be a large percentage of our economy with motels and hotels increasing in great numbers.
