Roles Of Japanese Tsunami Relief Organizations

By Nichole Cunningham

The Japanese tsunami relief organizations were formed in the past year to deal with the catastrophes that fell on Japan. The country north coast was hit by a powerful rainstorm triggered by an earthquake of Richter scale magnitude of 8.9. These organizations have for the past one year been securing resources for the rebuilding of lives affected by the disaster. They have helped many individuals thus making their lives better ever since the tragedy attacked.

Many affected communities are now reestablishing their life after the horrible natural disaster. This is seen through the various commercial buildings that are coming up in the effected regions. Such structures include department stores, restaurants and gas stations too. It is also surprising that the funding efforts have helped to set up whole factories that are a source of livelihood for many in the community.

Help, especially compensation for affected residents, from the government has been slow. Residents are moving back in their old houses to rebuild and start life again. The government has issued directives on where new buildings, either for commerce or residence, are to be set up as a measure of avoiding and minimizing damages in case of another emergency.

This is where the role of funding organizations becomes evident in helping the affected victims. The rainstorm waves are said to have contributed to such a high death toll. Many more people went missing and hundreds of thousands lost their property. Funding agencies are working with local organizations for continued support for the affected families. Some of those who were impacted still live in temporary shelters.

The various projects that have come together to help the victim have several goals. One of this is to offer emergency service to the affected ones. Even though it has been a year, there are those who have not emerged from the disaster. These include the older citizens and children, some of whom lost their guardians.

The main challenge facing these organizations is how to offer assistance to families who lost their source of income. The earthquake took away their businesses or those responsible for their daily bread. Adequate funding will help the organizations address this problem. The source of this funding is a bit tricky, though these groups are trying their best to offer assistance.

The disaster also affected the young. Young people are being empowered through leadership and innovation seminars. The organizations are empowering them with relevant skills, they need to rise out of the effects of the disaster and lead the new society towards progress. Now their lives have progressed well.

The earthquake tore apart the region and lead to alienation of some part of the community. There are sectors where people have felt left behind and marginalized. An interesting and innovative approach employed by some of the Japanese tsunami relief to deal with this issue has been the use of radio. They use radio to bring the people together and create one community. This has proved to work as a large number of people have heeded to their call and message.
