Keeping A Traveling Dog Protected

By Cornelius Nunev

Pets are often an element of our loved ones, and keeping them protected is very significant. Some pet owners aren't careful about keeping their pets secure. There are some basic things that every dog owner should remember, be it a five-minute or five-week vehicle trip.

Knowing where the puppy is allowed

When in a vehicle, dogs should not be allowed to ride unrestrained. A crate in the back or backseat is a good idea as long as the vehicle is large. It will also help you restrain your canine to have a gate between the back seat and rear area of any type of minivan or station wagon. For those who have a small car or limited space, then a dog seat belt (yes, they exist), will keep the dog protected. Restraining a dog in a vehicle serves two purposes: keeping the dog from jumping on the driver and causing a distraction and keeping the dog restrained and secure in lawsuit of an accident.

Somebody should be with the dog

We've all seen it in a parking lot - a pet in a vehicle, with the windows rolled up or just barely cracked. There are a couple of reasons to stay away from this. When it is only 50 or 60 degrees outside, a car can get to be 120 degrees. On a hot day, it can be over 300 degrees inside the car. The dog could end up with heat stroke when left in the car like this. Thousands of dogs get stolen every year from cars, meaning you are allowing your puppy to be possibly stolen.

Guard your pet's eyes

Dogs love riding with their faces out the window. Make sure you avoid this as much as possible since it is easy for things such as dirt and rock to fly up into the dog's nose, ears or even eyes. Get a pair of Doggles for your dog to defend its eyes if you cannot keep the head inside the automobile.

Shield the vehicle

Dogs can still hurt your vehicle, even if they are restrained properly. First, make sure to always have a blanket to throw over the seats to keep the upholstery clean. If your dog decides to use the car as a bathroom, it could get very stinky. Make sure to quickly clean the mess. Use club soda to soak the area while then using a carpet shampooer to clean it.
