2012 Edge Third Ford With Ecoboost Recalled

By Cornelius Nunev

In its 3rd recall of a model operated by the fuel-efficient EcoBoost motor this summer, Ford will be calling back some 2012 Edge crossovers. The recall is over a defect that may lead to an engine fire. The statement was made Saturday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

One SUV recalled from 2012

Over 5,000 Edge crossover SUVs from 2012 are being recalled in the recall publicized on September 15. The designs with the 1-liter EcoBoost motor are the ones affected.

Leaking fuel could trigger fire

According to the automaker, the fuel-line pulse damper housings may be cracked as the result of a manufacturing defect. Those defects can result in fuel leaks. And of course when fuel leaks where it should not be, that creates the potential for an engine compartment fire.

Ford said that it is aware of 11 incidents of fuel leaks in 2012 Edges with EcoBoost. However, it also said it was not aware of any fires starting as a result of the issue.

The car maker blamed a supplier in Michigan for providing the defective components.

Previous EcoBoost-model recalls

The car maker could be moving too easily with its fuel-efficiency technology considering this is the 3rd recall of a Ford model that had EcoBoost motors in it.

In July, Ford told all owners of the 2013 Escape Crossover with the 1.6 liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost motor that they should not drive their vehicles until they could get checked out and offered loaners to owners. There was a fuel leak issue in the 11,500 crossovers affected that might have caused combustion.

About 6,100 Escape crossovers were recalled in September from 2013 due to a coolant leak that could trigger an engine fire. It only included the cars with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine.

The 2013 Escape, with its 2.0-liter EcoBoost, is the only one that has not yet been recalled.

Owners informed soon

All owners will be notified by Ford, from Spokane to Miami. The 2012 Edge recall begins on September 24 officially. You can call 866-436-7332 to get any questions answered that you might have. All owners will be able to take their automobiles to a Ford dealership and get the automobile inspected and fuel line pulse swapped out if needed.
