Formatting Flyers For Advertising

By Yayan Sopyan

Flyers for advertising are an effective method of getting the word out about a service, company or product. The ways and means this is done can mean the difference between indifferent and highly interested customers. Keep the target audience in mind when composing and printing your message.

One of the most important steps in an advertising campaign such as this is choosing the paper to be utilized. An elegant parchment is perfect for a high-dollar item or service while inexpensive pastel or white paper can be used for children's items or lawn maintenance. Remember to laminate the flyer if it is to be exposed to outdoor elements.

The type of font chosen for the ad can also convey a message to customers. Standard fonts such as Times New Roman are generic and suitable for almost any message, a Juice ITC font is playful and fun and works well with children's ads and a French script is very formal and will send the correct message to diners at a formal restaurant. Do not use an elaborate font that is difficult for potential customers to read.

The size of the wording must be legible and clear. Proper spacing will help with the process as well as plentiful and consistent margins. The use of photos, borders or clip art will add extra visual appeal and help draw potential clients to your message.

Always double check the size of the wording. Your message needs to be clear, simple and easy to read even from a short distance. Too many words on one page can discourage prospective customers from reading the entire content. Use simple words that are easy to understand but that won't insult the average consumer. Use generous margins and proper spacing for a professional, easy-to-read advertisement.

Handwritten flyers are not acceptable in the professional world. Always use typewritten wording and a high quality picture or artwork. A scrawling or scribbled message with hand drawn figures or illustrations will lead to a perception of low quality and a lack of attention to detail in the business's product and service lines. The only exception to this rule is if you or someone you hire is an artist who can make a strong statement and a visually appealing ad with the originality of their work.

You can get your advertisements to your customers in several ways. They can be mailed, emailed, posted or passed out. The most effective method will depend on the type of business you have, where it is located and how well it is perceived by the recipients. Be aware of solicitation rules in your area when attaching ads to cars or doorways of residences.

Flyers for advertising are an inexpensive and easy alternative to more pricey methods of promoting your products or services. Using your imagination and computer skills can produce a unique and eye catching overview of anything you may want to sell or promote. It is an excellent manner of getting a new business off the ground or assisting an established company in getting a fresh start with added sales.
