The state of New York has among the biggest police agencies in the US and it's objective would be to consistently lead the country in reducing crime. Starting point is taking the written examination, but before you do that remember to be qualified to submit an application:

Must be no less than 17-1/2 years of age on the date of the exam.

Must not be more than 35 years of age on the date of the test.

About prospects over 35 years of age who possess armed service service experience, they may subtract 6 years from the age qualification.

Is required to be not less than 21 years of age on or before the day of employment.

Has to be a United States citizen on the day of hiring.

On or prior to the date of employment, prospects will need to have completed at least 60 college credits and have a 2.0 G.P.A. from an accredited school.

In case a candidate has armed service experience, they could waive the educational requirements as long as they have finished 2 years of full time active duty in the armed service having an honorable discharge.

Needs to have a legitimate N.Y. driver's permit.

Prospects should pay a $75.00 fingerprinting fee as part of the background exam.

All candidates has to successfully pass an alcohol and drug test.

Should pass a background and character investigation.

Opportunities also await for armed service veterans who would like to pursue a career in law enforcement.

A 1-time veteran's exam waiver can be used by a qualified veteran who satisfies the subsequent prerequisites:

Candidates should be an American citizen or given permanent residence status in the US.

Need to have an honorable discharge from the United States armed forces.

Should have served in active duty while in the armed forces.

Steps to be a cop in NY

Take and complete the civil service examination.

Go through a pre-employment interview.
