There are 4 main kinds of tea that are derived from the Camellia sinensis plant. Even though there are generally hundreds of different kinds of tea, the Chinese classified them into four main types and these are black tea, green tea, white tea, and oolong tea. The most used variety of tea consumed generally in most countries in the west is black tea. Like several tea, the health benefits of black tea focus on the same areas because it also comes from the Camellia sinensis plant like several tea does. Hence, black tea has same advantages like green tea as well as other types of teas. Black tea is also rich in anti-oxidants. In fact, black tea contains its private weapon - theaflavins and thearubigens. These types of antioxidants provide health benefits.

Green tea is much more popular than black tea however, in Europe and the Middle East, black tea reigns supreme. The leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant are dried out and fermented which gives black tea a darker color. Black tea also has a richer flavor in comparison with green tea. Green tea doesn't undergo fermentation procedure.

Black tea is also full of antioxidants. What are antioxidants? Antioxidants are substances that help your body fight against toxins. Free radicals when built up in the body cause early aging, cell death, and altered DNA. These antioxidants include quercetin which is a compound that helps protect against inflammation. It also improves the body's immune system.

The health benefits of black tea also expand to our overall cardiovascular health. Drinking three cups of black tea or green tea daily helps reduce the potential risk of stroke by 21% according to numerous studies. Just like green tea, black tea also helps reduce heart disease. Black tea strengthens the ability of endothelial cells lining the blood vessels. It also helps in regulating the blood circulation. Therefore, black tea is beneficial in making the arteries smooth and clog-free. A study that was performed in Netherlands revealed that men that consumed 3 cups of black tea every day lowered their chances of dying from heart disease up to 50%. Black and green teas both are useful in reducing bad cholesterol and they also improve good cholesterol in the body.

Black tea also has a fluorine aspect that helps stop tooth decay by conditioning tooth enamel. It helps control acid in the teeth and therefore building your teeth stronger. Having green or black tea can also help get rid of viruses in the mouth like herpes. It can also help prevent diarrhea, pneumonia, cystitis, and infections of the skin. Black tea deactivates the viruses in the body responsible for the development of particular medical health conditions.
