A Source Of Recreational Fun: Playstation

The word "PlayStation" is such a generally used term to the common consumer. Many people do not realize it is not a simplistic way to reference one particular game console, but rather the entire series that Sony Computer Entertainment both created and developed. 1994 marked the beginning of a miraculous decade of technology that includes handheld gaming devices, a slew of controllers, official magazines, convenient online services, a dazzling media center, and three reputable home gaming consoles.

The first PlayStation came on the market in the early 1990s and was meant to please those game-lovers who wanted to discover a game's challenges without leaving their home. After consumers bought more than 100 million units in just ten years, the game-maker introduced model number two. When consumers bought more than 150 million units of that second model, it looked a good deal like a number of households must contain two play stations. The response to the third of the play stations has been less intense, but its presence in the marketplace cannot be denied.

In order to keep up with the expanding technology, Sony released a portable version, known as PSP, which was soon followed by the PlayStation Vita. They attempted to market the PSX, which was a video recording device. Due to lower demand and higher costs, the launch never made it outside of Japan. Similarly, the Sony Bravia went down the same path. Shifting their focus, Sony began to perfect some already booming developments.

Sony then hit the jackpot with their unique controller line which which allowed the vibrations on the screen to be felt in the handset. These were given the name "DualShock" of which over 28 million were sold. Gamers loved the thought of being more immersed into the action. This was a big leap forward in bringing the players more into the games.

Today the Playstation Network has expanded the market for those things that highlight the game's noteworthy elements. That market includes things like stores that sell Playstations and services that satisfy the multiple needs of PlayStation-crazy gamers. As a result, gaming has become an easy and affordable way for staying occupied, during a period of free time.
