Old School Romance - Take A Lesson From The Past

By Karen Holland

A trip into the past regularly produces terribly happy memories of activities we probably did for fun as we were just beginning to go out on dates. These activities now may seem sort of corny, but regularly the corny and easy activities we do are the most fun, and bring out the kid in us.

We all know that laughter frequently produces a romantic atmosphere. It's not all about candlelight dinners. Romance can blossom when we snort and enjoy ourselves, as well. Let's take a look at some old-school activities that you and your lover can share:

Roller Rink Rendezvous

Roller rinks have kept their place in the dating world because they have maintained that same atmosphere of funky fun, all the way down to the disco ball and flashing lights. The music sets the perfect rhythm to glide across the floor with your sweetie.

It doesn't matter if you have all the right moves, just wrap your arms around your lover and enjoy your time together skating around and round the rink. 1 or 2 falls may occur, but the bumps and bruises are easily worth it. Many roller rinks offer 'adults only ' skating time which makes it even easier to focus on each other, and your love.

Drive-In and Outdoor Movies

You will need to look round to get a drive-in or outside film, but they are on the rise in many areas. In big cities and tiny cities alike, old drive-in movies are being revamped. The newest craze is the moving outdoor theater. Massive wagons pull into a city and set up their 'theater ' in a park. All you need to do is bring your blankets and chairs and settle in for the flick.

Picture dates are always fun but they are more romantic under the stars. Be certain to have warm blankets so you can snuggle underneath and keep warm. Do not forget to bring your favorite movie nibbles like an enormous bag of popcorn and a giant drink. If you're fortunate enough to find a drive-in, you'll want to climb in the rear seat so that you can get really comfortable. Isn't it great to be well placed to recreate those first-date feelings with your other half? That is the very best of both worlds; being with your life-mate and feeling like a child!

Bowling

If you believe romance starts with a good giggle, then bowling is for you. From the funny shoes to the stupid moves, bowling is frankly plain fun. Make your bowling date competitive with contests between the pair of you like a special romantic reward for who gets the 1st 'turkey ' (3 strikes in a row).

Enjoy classic bowling alley food like hot dogs and pizza. It is actually about recreating a fresh date, so indulge like you probably did when you used to be a teen. You say you've never bowled before? Perhaps now's the time to let your other half teach you 1 or 2 basic moves which requires some real close hands-on strategies. You can even need to pretend you can not bowl solely to get a lesson or 2 from your sweetie!

Ice Skating

A frosty day is romantic all on its own, but add smooth moves on sparkling ice and you've a perfect date. Between turns round the rink, warm up in your spouse's arms with a cup of hot cocoa.

If you haven't been on ice skates in a while, you could be spending a bit of time sitting on the ice, but that's part of the fun, picking each other up. It's all about having a laugh and snuggling to remain warm. Sounds like romance is in the icy air!

Activities that are reminiscent of dating days from your youth will spark the same feelings you had at that time. Whether or not you have never done an activity like this, just giving something new a try will lead you to feel like a child again. Recreate a faster time when you and your other half were just studying about one another and enjoy the romance.
