Bathroom Upgrades On A Budget

By Brett Stevens

Though the bathroom may not be the biggest room in the house, it is probably the most important. It is your personal private space where you can contemplate the day gone by. If it's been a while since you last upgraded your bathroom, there are ways that you can make it more enjoyable and pleasant to be. It is also an important room in terms of the value of your home and a great bathroom can be a massive selling point for your property. Creating the right feel in the bathroom is therefore vital.

A worst case scenario would be to do a major overhaul that includes updating the bath, shower, toilet and wash basin. If you don't change everything that is old and shabby will really stand out in an upgraded bathroom. Whatever style that you are after, you have many to choose from like modern to retro or classical to hip. You will no doubt have a budget to stay within and therefore will need to shop around to work out prices and availability. The very top-of-the-line bathrooms can be from companies that create custom designs. On the lower and more budget conscious end, you can easily change out fixtures and accessories. If you just change accessories consider installation costs, if you can't do it yourself.

If you are not able to replace the entire bathroom at the moment, there are more inexpensive options. You can simply replace the cabinet knobs and pulls and also things like towel holders, bars, toothbrush holders and soap dishes. Go with something more modern to give your bathroom the extra flair. Another option is to replace the old shower curtain with a clear screen, making the bathroom look bigger and cleaner. These options are very affordable and very easy to upgrade. You could also replace the tiles on the wall or floor making your bathroom look even cleaner. Make sure that whatever flooring you buy will be able to hold up to the humidity in your bathroom.

Besides updating the main fixtures in your bathroom, you can do other things to enhance the look of your bathroom. Decide on a color scheme that suits your mood. Soft furnishings such as bath mats, curtains or blinds and lots of soft, fluffy towels can be co-ordinated. With a huge selection of options, you should take your time and have fun coming up with the design of your bathroom. You can also add some color to the bathroom by adding pictures and paintings or you can create a focal point like potted plants or scented candles. Candles can not only provide color but it can also enhance the aroma of your bathroom. Other affordable options include adding a new soap dispenser, toilet roll holder or toilet brush.

Last, be sure to have enough storage to put bathroom accessories away and looking neat.
