Malware Or Spyware - What You Need To Remember

By Larry Oaks

A new term used to describe malicious "mal" software, "ware" that has no other purpose other than to destroy or disrupt a computer is called a malware. Spyware and adware are considered to be malware.

The only reason why spyware is placed on your computer is of course to make money and no, this money is not for you. When you download those funny and comical files that your friends e mailed to you, free video or music files, free wallpaper, etc. spyware usually comes attached. Considered as a billion dollar industry is the spyware industry. In fact, many people are getting very rich by selling the information they track about you and hundreds of thousands just like you.

A software program that is also attached with free downloads of many kinds is called adware. Causing pop ups on your computer, even when you're done with the initial site you visited is what adware usually does. This means that when you're surfing, checking e mail, or even working, or anytime that you are on your computer, annoying pop ups will appear.

There are ways for your to protect your computer. First of all, how about performing an on demand scan of your computer on a regular basis using an anti spyware software? After the initial scan, it is suggested that you re-boot your computer and then re-scan just to make sure that there are no ticklers left behind on your computer. When it comes to these ticklers, they are designed to reinstall spyware. Don't forget that running your antivirus software on a regular basis is also a must.

Staying away from free downloads is also a must. Avoid opening up any unsolicited email from anyone. Don't open it and instead, delete it from your server.

People can do this to you, no matter how wrong it would seem. It would be nice if it was against the law too. Someday, with any luck, it will be.
