What does the word tutor mean to you?. Your answer is likely to be referring to extra tuition that the students take privately from teachers outside of their school or colleges. This is the meaning that most of us come up with when asked. However the dictionary meaning could be something else.

Though normally we associate tutoring with academics, this need not be the case. When you learn music or dance or even driving or swimming etc, you are being tutored. Simply meaning teaching or imparting any skill or knowledge and training can be referred to tutoring and the person tutoring is the tutor.

There is no limit to anyone's learning anything. Whatever you can dream of, you can find a tutor who knows the subject to teach you.

The tutor helps you open your mind and thoughts to assimilate new knowledge as well as explore the particular area of interest. He teaches you to navigate through the vast ocean of knowledge and gather the required part that is useful for you.

To be a tutor you do not have to be certified unless you want to join an academic institution as a teacher. You can be a tutor at any point of time in your life as long as you have a sufficient hold over the subject matter.

It is quite possible that you are a professional working somewhere but you have it in you to teach others something. If you are one of those who enjoy teaching others, then you should use that skill and help other people learn. This is something that is very useful thing that you can do to contribute to the society and help shape the future of youngsters.

Your options for teaching are totally flexible and up to you to decide and choose. You can do your regular job and at the same time teach either in the evenings for a few hours or during weekends. You can even choose to teach online at nights on the internet too.

End of the day sharing knowledge and enabling others to learn can be very fulfilling.
