Annual events in Lanzarote

By Zeus Spencer

Every year hundreds of thousands of people travel to the island of Lanzarote for their summer holiday. They do so because Lanzarote is a beautiful island with lots for people to see and do as well as a lovely warm year round climate. What makes the climate even more enjoyable though is that all around Lanzarote there are lots of stunning golden beaches and historic towns for people to experience it on and in.

Of all the many things which people can do and see on the island most of them can be done or seen at any time of the year as they are always there. Throughout the year however there are numerous events which take place which people will only be able to experience if they are fortunate enough to be on the island when they do. One of which is Canary Islands day at the end of May each year.

Throughout Canary Islands day a huge amount takes place for people to enjoy including traditional Canary Islands plays and music with lots of shows of traditional dancing to a Canaries orchestra. There are also numerous sporting events which take place and everything is topped off with people having traditional Canary Islands food and partying long into the night.

Ironman is another event which happens each year in Lanzarote. Some of Europe's top athletes attend the event to test their fitness, endurance and willpower as they take on a distance swim, run and bike ride around the island. Although Ironman is difficult enough by itself it is obviously made much more difficult by Lanzarote's intense heat and this is why the Lanzarote leg is so notorious among athletes.

There are plenty of other events throughout the summer months which tourists like to experience if they are on the island. These events include things like sports, dance, music as well as lots of festivals and carnivals. The events are spread all over the island and are a great way to get a real feel for how people in Lanzarote like to live.
