Purchase Your Outdoor Picnic Tables With Care

By Daniel Turbin

When finding suitable outdoor picnic tables, there are certain things that you can check out. Check each piece before you purchase. Wood is a natural substance and as such may include some flaws. Some will be minor like a piece of wood with a color change but others can be more tough such as the noticeable presence of lots of knots. Knots are the weak spot in wooden furnishings and ideally should be avoided. But if you do get a piece with knots, making sure they are appropriately closed before use will make the piece last longer.

Some woods are more suitable for use in the garden. One such wood is the teak and one more is red cedar lumber. Teak was used in the building of ships so is deemed one of the most effective to use for outdoor garden furniture. It can be expensive though hence red cedar lumber may be a cheaper alternative.

The advantage of using Cedar is that the wood is naturally protected to insect damage which is advantageous with outdoor picnic tables. It isn't easily spoiled by sunlight while if you live in a very sunny state you will probably already have got a garden umbrella. Makers like it since being a soft wood, it is easy to cut into pieces and also sticks well together so they don't have to worry about how to make the product.

It is either reddish brown or a bit yellow in color and most people want to let these distinctive colors shine through so will apply a clear stain to preserve it from the weather. You can use a shaded stain if you like a richer darker more uniform shade.

As Cedar is a comparatively common wood, easy to handle and can be used in the mass production of furniture these outdoor picnic tables are actually much reasonably priced.
