Why Prayers Are Not Answered?

By Mercy Nikenya

When we pray, addressing our desperate pleas to the most high above God, He sometimes appears to turn a deaf ear to us. Why is God not giving us instant results when we are faced with desperate moments and seek his assistance? Is it that he doesn't hear our pleas? Why does he delay in giving us solutions and leave us to suffer so much? Sometimes God answers them after we have become so frustrated and almost lost hope in life, why does God do this?

When our prayers aren't answered right away, irritation is experienced and if they're never answered we may start to lose hope and at last our faith may fail us completely. What we should realize is that God answers our prayers in a number of ways. There is a way that we should pray, the Bible scriptures discussed below outline the factors which make God not to answer our prayer.

1.) Unforgiving-Not all who seek God thru prayers are ready to forgive others; an individual will hate his or her friend, hate a family member and even a neighbour but he/she prays to God to be forgiven sins. Mark 11:25 advices us to forgive others who have wronged us so as when we pray, God may forgive us also. Our prayers may not be answered because we do not forgive people who have trespassed against us.

2.) Selfishness-Many people ask God for needs and wants that benefit them and not the desire to help others. We should not desire to satisfy our needs and wants alone but seek to help others. The poor need our help in society. It is God who created people who are poor and those people who are rich. If they come to us requesting our help we should not say that we don't have anything because if we do God will punish us for being selfish. In order for God to help us through prayers, we should also help those who needs our help. Proverbs 21:13 warns us if we don't help the poor we will not also not be helped when we require help.

3.) Doubt-Not all people who pray to God have faith. They doubt when asking for help or in whatever they strive to achieve in life. There are people who doubt the work of God. They don't have faith, with God nothing is impossible. The assurance is given in the book of Matthew 21:21-22, when you pray have faith for prayers done without faith will remain unanswered.

4.) Greed-We do ask but we do not receive because we ask for what is intended for our own benefit not for the benefit of others. We are greedy in our prayers desiring what others have. In our prayers we are supposed to intercede for our neighbors, pray for their well being. That is not to say that we shouldn't pray for our own wants. James 4:3 informs us not to ask wrongly, when praying we should request for things that aren't for our own pleasure but to help us in life.

Conclusion

The above are some of the things why our prayers may remain unanswered. When we pray we should have faith, we shouldn't give up hope in life simply because we requested God to help us in desperate moments but he didn't help us. Pray without ceasing.
