How easy is it to install commercial solar panels?

By Janice Neuer

Solar panels are expected to be around for a long time, both at home and in the workplace. They are a fantastic way of minimising expenditure on electric bills. They also reduce dependence on fossil fuels by business owners and are a clean source of power. A great way to add value to a building os to have rooftop solar panels installed.

You should begin by asking yourself is the roof is strong enough for the panels to be supported and if there is enough space for them. Further questions you should be wondering about is if the roof offers southern exposure and is open to adequate sunlight. Solar panels are at their most effective between the hours of 9am and 3pm, when they are subjected to full sun exposure.

Next you should get some quotes as they can be a sizeable investment. However, they can also offer a substantial return and provide more value to your home or building. Look around for quotes but don't just sign on the dotted line with the company who offer you the lowest price. Go with a company who can provide a solid track record. Learn as much as you can in advance and pose the right questions as it may be that a solar system with a higher price tag may be the better long-term solution for you and give you an improved return on your investment.

Take a look at your last few electricity bills to give yourself an indication of the amount of energy you need. Work out how many kilowatt hours you use every day as well as every month and year. When you calculate the size of the solar panels you will need, you need to know how much electricity fits your requirements.

You will further need to make some decisions on which type of solar panel you need. There are three options and each one with a different level of efficiency. There are mono-crystalline panels, poly-crystalline panels, and amorphous. There are also different kinds of installation which you will need to consider such as a grid-tied system. This allows further panels to be installed at a later date.
