The Do's and Don'ts of Great Skin

By Yuri Szilasi

We all wish to have glowing fresh looking skin but often we can be our own worst enemy even when trying to accomplish this goal. All too often people go about the job of trying to improve their skin without first gathering the right information. Not all skin products are equal and some can do more damage than good for certain skin conditions. Before you go about the process of improving your skin make an effort to find out about the do's and don'ts of skin care. These tips can help stop you from causing more issues with your skin, and ensure that you attain the glowing fresh skin you're looking for.

Don't try more than one new skin care product a month. Trying a few new products over a short time frame may cause your skin to react badly. You might experience clogged pores, excessive dryness, or an allergic reaction. As well as these negative complications, if you're introducing more than one product at a time it will be very difficult to figure out which products are working and with are doing harm.

Do re-appraise your skin regularly. Often times we use the same skin care products for years even though our skin care needs might have changed significantly. Most people's skin care needs change several times each year. Changes can also become more obvious as we get older. Take the time to reevaluate your skin care requirements. Determine if your skin has become drier or perhaps more oily than the last time you purchased skin products. You need to also be aware of any change in the sensitiveness of your skin and check for signs of sun damage.

Don't go to war with your skin. Using too many products can actually do more harm than good. Many folks think that if they attack the problem with as many active ingredients as possible they can resolve the problem fast but that is not the case. There comes a point when the active ingredients in these skin care creams become harmful to your skin's natural balance. You should never use more than 2 medicated products at a time. These products include skin care regimens which use retinol, alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. Using more than 2 of these products at a time may cause excess drying of the skin and will only complicate the issues which you are attempting to address.

Do conduct research on new products before you buy them. We're all looking to find that miracle cure that will make our skin seem younger and healthier than ever before but that does not mean that you should buy every product which claims to offer you that cure. Take the time to conduct a little research on new skin care products before you use them on your skin. This is especially important if the product contains an active component that you've not used before. Read about the potential side effects of the product, and learn about the science behind the product. Understanding how the product works and what side-effects could potentially result will help you identify if the product is right for you.

Don't neglect skin care essentials. Many ladies will spend a considerable sum of money on a wrinkle cream or other cosmetic , but fail to use the basic skin products which keep their skin clean and healthy. Skin care products like a high quality cleanser, toner, and moisturizer should be a part of every woman's skin care program. A failure to include these things as well as sun screen and make up remover can interfere with your attempts to enhance your skin. For instance it will be hard to treat acne if your skin is not being correctly cleansed.
