This Festive Season's Party Dresses

By John Jones

Social events like parties often require wearing a fashionable dress for the season. Whether that special holiday party is coming up or it's a business event that requires wearing something sophisticated and chic, the perfect party dress for the season will vary. Despite differences in formality, party dresses often fall under different categories to help match personal taste and the party needs. Here are some top tips to ensure you look the part this season:

Party dresses grew ever more expensive and elaborate as time passed. Evening and ball gowns were designed for women of means. Dressmakers used heavy, luxurious fabrics that only the rich could afford. It was not until the 20th century that designers started making dresses for average women.

Lace dresses have also made a grand return for Christmas. White lace has made a surprising comeback this holiday season. Dainty, supremely feminine, and lady-like, a lace dress is the epitome of timelessness. Contradictory to fitted lace sheath dresses of yesteryear, today's lace dresses often feature a fitted bodice, ballet neckline, and a full blouson hem or A-line shape. These beautiful gowns can easily be paired with chandelier earrings, stiletto heels, and a classic pearl necklace; the look is extravagant and elegant.

As we mentioned at the outset, there is no standard definition of what a party dress actually is. In fact, it is more confusing than ever. For upper class women living in 18th century France, it was fairly obvious what they would wear to a formal affair. But the modern woman has to consider several factors before she selects her party dress. The most important one, of course, is the event.

Jewel bright colours have made a dramatic comeback in designer bridesmaid dresses at all levels. These bright hues and shades are stunning and allow women to choose their favourite colours to look their best. The vivid colours draw the eye at any party, but are particularly stunning at those winter weddings and events.
