Pheromones and the Placebo Effect: So What?

By Abe Danav

The idea nags us. Are we actually being tricked and tricked into squirting on a liquid-fairy dust? Our dubious selves asks what type of simpleton really believes that this magic pill will reinvent our dating life. It just appears to be too fantastic to be real.

Privately, there exists a a part of me that understands that I in some way actually feel different when I have it on. It changes the way women react to me and there is an distinguished sexual vibe exhibited right after I am recently covered with the Pheromones.

Unquestionably, you can find clinical research attesting to the strength and efficacy of pheromones in the animal world. Science can plainly map out the natural role Pheromones play in a given mammals seduction processes and indeed its usefulness as an evolutionary tool. The query then is whether or not scientists can actually reverse engineer these substances and generate an artificial pheromones to imbue in our perfumes.

Equally notable is anecdotal evidence demonstrating the real world outcomes of pheromones. Numerous reviews and accounts have been relayed extolling their virtues. Interestingly, men and women appear to think that the pheromone infused perfumes do in fact get them to be better with the opposite sex.

I have been wrestling with these two ostensibly contradicting understandings and I believe that I have realized a remedy to this predicament. The eventual truth about whether these pheromones actually work is unimportant. The dynamic of the interaction undoubtedly shifts when the individual implements this spray.

Obviously, when I say "work", I am alluding to the literal cause-effect of the pheromones on the opposite sex. I am uncertain that it is practically the chemical substance that is causing the connection to go so smooth but I can say for certain that believing that it works does in fact impact the character of the communication. This phenomenon is known as the placebo effect.

It is apparent that even in the event that I am just spraying on some sugar water, I will still on some level maintain the belief that something is different. That possibility causes me to proceed in a certain way. It imbues a devilish assurance and great value that when conveyed, elicits powerful feelings of attraction in the "target."

It is the belief that transforms the individual. So do pheromones "work"? Well, who knows. But more importantly, it doesn't matter. They work because you cannot help but believe that they work.
