Dog Skin Allergies 101

There are actually many types of dog skin allergies. You should consider identifying what these are so that you could find the best solution for your pet dog. There are different types of allergens that can affect a dog. You might end up surprised to find out that it doesn't take too much to actually provide a safe place for your pets.

Allergic symptoms are easy to note. Your dog would most likely exhibit a fondness of scratching like never before. It is important to take care of dog skin allergies as early as possible because this problem is not something that only your dogs can have. It can also be passed on to you.

Food is a known source of dog skin allergies. Typically, dogs who are stricken with a food allergy would be scratching like mad. But on top of that, they would also be showing some gastrointestinal problems which might lead to vomiting and even experiencing diarrhea.

Fleas are also among the well-documented cases of dog skin allergies. They are parasites that feed on your dog's blood. But it's not the feeding on the blood per se that actually causes the allergy. It's the saliva that the fleas leave behind when they bite on the dog's skin.

There is also another type of allergy which you can expect your dogs to suffer from and it's called atopy. This atopy is also quite common because it is caused by allergens that get inhaled by your dog. Through elimination, you can prevent this or stop the allergic reaction that is currently experienced by your dog.

There are different types of treatment applied for dog skin allergies. This is why you should involve your veterinarian once there is a suspicious case of allergy. They might prescribe some medicines such as antihistamines and steroids for your dog. But you would need to carefully follow the prescription and medical schedule when giving this to your pet.

Also, it is important to start helping your dog build a stronger immune system. You should revisit the kind of food that you feed them. Make sure that it is filled with omega fatty acids because this helps strengthen the immune system as well as provide relief for itching. In addition to this, necessary supplements may also be prescribed.

Then of course, you should remember to keep a clean home to ultimately prevent dog skin allergies. This is something that wouldn't benefit just your dog but your family members as well.
