Now's the time to buy engraved holiday cards

While many are absorbing rays at the beach, others are looking ahead to the holiday season. August and September are good months to kick start the holiday season by buying your holiday greeting cards or Xmas cards. Many merchants are offering large promotional discounts on personalized holiday cards bought before the end of September.

With the increased popularity of social media sending Christmas greeting cards has lost some of their luster. Nonetheless, business executives recognize the importance of connecting with their clients to reinforce their brand image. Others find it a compelling custom that helps cement friendships by sharing news of family and friends.

Whatever the motivation, engraved Christmas cards make a bold statement in shaping your holiday message. Colors are bolder, images sharper and papers are typically of a far higher quality than the flat-printed Christmas cards sold online. While seasonal images and the greeting sentiment are generally ready-printed, new dies are made to add your names and the return address to the holiday card.

While engraved holiday cards have a tendency to be costlier than the traditional mass-produced holiday cards, the three-dimensional effect and opaque colors of engraving make engraved Christmas cards little pieces of art. Each engraved color is applied with a separate die and press run, thereby increasing overall printing costs. Nevertheless, the effect of an engraved card is worth the additional expense.

Crane & Co. Has been making wonderfully engraved Yuletide cards and fine stationery for many years. Crane's traditional brightly-colored Christmas tree regularly sets the standard for the rest of industry which attempts to match the close-resolution printing needed to create these crisp designs.

Equally impressive is the rather obscure designer and printer, Robert D'Arconte. Operating from a lovely studio in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. D'Arconte is, maybe, the only designer who also engraves his own holiday cards. D'Arconte is well-known for his burnished metallic colors and embossed stamping which frame his contemporary designs.

For quite some time Mr. D'Arconte has resisted promoting his cards online because low resolution internet images often distort the quality of his designs. This year, for the first time, Mr. D'Arconte has allowed the online reproduction of 18 holiday cards that may be bought online or through authorized dealers.
