How To Cure TMJ And Headaches

By Jeff Wrigley

There are several persons in this universe who are at risk of TMJ and headaches or currently have the sicknesses on a daily basis, based on dislocation of the jaw section. There are numerous factors for this recurring problem. The cartilage lining of the teeth gets frail because of the daily grinding of the teeth.

The abbreviated name TMJ also known as Temporomandibular Joint is as a result of the teeth biting out of line. Any person who has this condition, also has the associated symptoms of headaches and even more associated side effects.

There are certain degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis which are known to cause loss of the cartilage leading to the disorder. Previous fracture of the jaw can also lead to this condition. People who are stressed and depressed are also known to grind their teeth, which can cause headaches.

Some very common symptoms include facial pain, ear ache, migraine, neck and shoulder pain, and also a dizzy feeling. The pain may also increase while eating and chewing food or even yawning. It may not be a fatal disease as such but pain, however it may be, always causes uneasiness. So it is better to detect the cause and go for a proper treatment.

Apart from that, exercises are suggested by doctors. For example, if the pain emerges due to grinding of teeth, a mouth guard can serve as a remedy. Misalignment of the jaw bone can be cured by effective jaw exercise, the simplest of which is chewing a gum. Slow stretching of the jaw can also help reduce the pain. Always remember that jaw movements used for curing the pain should be slow and not rapid and rushed.

Similarly if stress is the reason behind such pains, practices like yoga and tai chi can be of great help. Adequate sleep is also important; so make sure you sleep for at least eight hours a day as this would refresh your mind and body.

There are all kinds of pharmaceutical medications offered on the shelves that will drastically reduce the headaches. Then again, it is recommended that a doctor or a specialist looks at the severity of the condition before purchasing any of these medications, as constant intake can have temporary or permanent effects.

Some persons usually clamp their teeth together, and it is necessary for the physician to find out the reasons. Persons who have bad temper, always worrying and anxious must make every effort to avoid the clamping.

If a person has facial pain, hard food involving a lot of chewing or movement of the jaw should be avoided. Food habit must be customized accordingly. A heating pad or a warm cloth can also come in handy. As for bodily postures, slouching should be strictly avoided. This would not only prevent such headache but also add to the appearance of the person.

Using these basic procedures in curing the condition is an effective means in overcoming the discomfort.
