The new generation phone- Smartphone

By Ian R Clayton

With the invention of the phone, there was a revolution in the entire world. We could so easily reach out to a million of people living anywhere in the world at absolutely any time. This indeed did make the world and smaller place and it got all of us together.

This connectivity became a facilitator of all form of communication. Letter writing thus became quite redundant and telephone changed the perspective and the way people lived their lives.

This was something that did not happen in a days' time. A lot of scientific work preceded this invention. Very soon with the fixed line telephone, came a new type of phone, the mobile phone. This was also categorised as a telephone but this brought with it an even new type of innovation.

Now people could not necessarily be in their houses with an access to a fixed line phone and could still communicate. This was the merits of having a cell phone. Cell phone now and cell phone then were very different. At that point of time, it was a devise that would let you communicate without a wired connection and now it is something much more than that.

There are so many features that the mobile phone provides now- access to the internet, video calling, MMs, etc.

As new and new things were being discovered, then came in the smart phones. They were quite a revolution in themselves. Smart phones also existed under the same umbrella of mobile phones. They offered much more advanced computing ability and a sort of connectivity that is not there in any contemporary phone.

These phones run on a software system. This software is facilitated by the application developers. As the demand for smart phones kept on increasing, at a similar pace, the innovation and improvement in smart phones kept on happening.

The first smart phone that came into existence was by IBM. The model name of this phone was Simon. It was designed in the year 1992. In the year after trial and testing it was realised in the market for the people in 1993.

The features that Simon had were a calendar, world clock, an address book, email facility, note pad, capacity to receive fax, etc.

Very soon Nokia also came up with a similar feature phone. This was Nokia 9000 and it was realised in 1996.

As the world starting growing and advancing, similarly even the smart phone industry started growing. The growth on this industry, according to the analyst, has been at a rate higher than of products. Most of the countries have noticed an increase in the users of smart phones.

Very soon in 2000, the touch screen smart phone was launched by Ericsson. It was called a combination of a mobile and a personal digital assistant. The other companies were not left behind. In 2007 Apple came up with an iPhone. Nokia then released the first phone that used Symbian technology. Now there are smart phones that use Windows 7.

The pace at which things are happening, I cannot just imagine what is it that it coming up next. Well anything can, so let us wait for the surprise.
